IFCHC at Astana 2018
IFCHC, based out of the Canadian Association of Community Health Centres (CACHC) in Toronto, Canada, had a strong presence at the Global Conference on Primary Health Care in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The conference was a critical gathering of leaders from around the world to commemorate the 1978 Alma-Ata Declaration and to officially launch the new Declaration of Astana on Primary Health Care. Throughout 2018, IFCHC helped shape the Declaration of Astana through extensive input (Round 1 input | Round 2 input). IFCHC and CACHC were also among the first international and national organizations to endorse the Declaration during the global conference in Astana.
IFCHC delivered a formal presentation at the global conference in Astana, provided here. Scroll through tweets captured here to get a closer glimpse at some important activity from #Astana2018 via social media.

So far at #Astana2018 it is the voice of young people that resonates most. Thank you @Unicef for helping bring these voices to the fore. We must listen and engage youth in policy, planning and delivery of #PrimaryHealthCare. pic.twitter.com/fDVUpjCy52

Without #healthequity and #socialjustice as core pillars of #PrimaryHealthCare policy, planning and funding, health systems are doomed to perpetuate the social and health inequities that are the greatest drivers of healthcare costs and socio-economic instability. #Astana2018 @WHO

By integrating team-based primary care with services/programs that address #SDOH (housing, food security, poverty, etc), Community Health Centres (#CHCs) break down policy and funding silos and accelerate global progress on Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). #Astana2018 pic.twitter.com/hwg19lrXKH

To achieve #HeathForAll, governments and civil society groups must commit to putting equity, inclusion, and socio-economic justice at the core of our vision for #PrimaryHealthCare, with healthy public policy and investment in strong, public systems around the world. #Astana2018 pic.twitter.com/6XryilaAtL

At its core, #PrimaryHealthCare is about caring for people, rather than curbing a disease. It is about delivering services people say they need, rather than services someone else decides they should have. It’s time for #HealthForAll. https://t.co/IlunhvmL8D pic.twitter.com/Wz59wnjJm6

#PrimaryHealthCare is a critical foundation for universal health coverage. When strong, it meets the vast majority of people’s health needs across their lives. But too often, it is the most under-resourced part of the health system. This must change. https://t.co/IlunhvmL8D pic.twitter.com/zl2xnRWyGA
